Cyclone Pam – Pacific Islands
Cyclone Pam has caused substantial damage to some islands in the South Pacific and this has affected the travel plans for some of our clients. For cover to be provided for this event the travel policy must have been purchased prior to 10/03/2015 and cover is provided as below under our leisure travel policies:
Travel Delay Costs
–we will cover reasonable meal and accommodation costs incurred provided pre-booked scheduled departure/transport is delayed by the time period specified in the policy.
- In the event that a connecting flight is missed due to travel delay we will pay for reasonable additional travel and accommodation expenses for policyholders to resume travel plans.
In both cases cover is up to the maximum policy benefit, subject to the terms and conditions of the policy, and the policyholder must apply for all available refunds from the airline.
Cancellation, Curtailment and Amendment Costs – (applies to Vanuatu only)
if the policyholder needs to cancel or amend their travel plans due to this event, they should contact our office to discuss their circumstances before amending their travel plans, to clarify if these additional costs are covered by their insurance. We will consider reimbursing amendment or cancellation costs on a case by case basis. In all cases the policyholder should apply for all available refunds from their original travel and/or accommodation providers as the policy will only cover additional expenses incurred.
Please be aware our policies do not cover any claims arising from the New Zealand Governments’ recommendation that travel is not be taken to any territory, region or country as per the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT) website
